His Point of View

Wants vs. Needs

scalesWhen we meet people on the dating scene occasionally we meet people (that we are attracted to) that logically would be a good fit in our lives, and in rare cases we may meet a person who may substantially enhance our lives. On the other hand there are those people who we are attracted to (because they are sexy, rich, exciting, etc…)but they add no real value to our lives and as a result they will undoubtedly drain your energy or resources without a return on your investment.

How often do you choose to invest your time and energy with the person who is good for you, instead of the person who you want to be with for no logical reason other than some superficial attraction (e.g. money, physical appearance, or their “abilities”). We all (should)know that the best option long term is to seek relationships which will fortify our future, but so many people seem to get caught up in relationships with people who are not a good match for the long haul.

Are money, “swagger”, or physical appearances more important than your long term happiness, success, and family stability?

I know that many people will not recognize the bad decisions they have made, and others will not admit to their bad choices in life. We should always learn from our mistakes, and as we grow older we should have learned what traits to we are incompatible with. When we notice incompatible traits in others we should recognize them as signs that its time to move on, and stop wasting time with the person exhibiting those characteristics.   All too often we hear people complain about meeting the same type of guy/girl… I say that if that’s the case you are not modifying your actions based on what you should have learned in the past.  Until you  make changes in who you associate with, where you spend time, what you are involved in, and the number of times you ignore the signs to move on, you will continue to have the same results from your romantic relationships.
