Get Real

So this morning I read an article in the paper about how much of a “cheapskate” David Beckham is. Apparently he went to a team dinner here in DC and when the bill came he picked up his bill and paid his bill and left the establishment. What’s the problem with that? Well if you were to ask me that question I would say not a thing.
Apparently this is newsworthy because the writer feels that because Beckham earns a $6.5 million salary and has $48.2 million in endorsements that he should pay for dinner for his entire team when they eat out. But why should he? These teammates are all professional athletes(grown men, I might add) and the team average salary if you exclude Beckham’s $6.5million is $146,854. (there are 10 players who earn less than $90,000 and two of those players only earn $13,000 per year). Aside from those few unfortunate souls who earn less than $50,000 per year I have no sympathy for any of these pros who may feel slighted because the team star did not foot the bill. No team members gave statements for the article so we don’t really know if anyone was offended other than this writer. And if they were offended I would say grow up… and/or get another job.
