His Point of View

If you are familiar with flat screen television technology I am sure that you know that Samsung is a leader in the industry.  When I saw this article over at Engadget I fell in love.  Samsung is about to release (in Korea only so far) a 55-inch LCD television with a 7-inch touchscreen remote that allows you to control your whole audio/visual system, and access media stored on your PC.  No impressive right???  How about this… the TV can streamHD Blu-Ray and live video to the remote so that you can see what’s on the TV if you are in another room.  The remote also can access the channel guide and show previews of video before you turn the channel on the main screen.  This is really a breakthrough in the world of home entertainment as far as I am concerned.  Now you can go to the kitchen and keep up with the show without having to pause the action for everyone else in the room.  This, to me is far better than Picture-in-Picture since the main screen’s show is never interrupted by the channel flipper who always has to see what’s on the other channel during commercial breaks.  On top of all that the remote will be able to run “widget” applications such as a clock or a weather application.  

According to the article the TV and remote are coming together as a bundle, so this likely will not be something you can add to your current flat screen, but rest assured that if this technology becomes popular, someone will figure out how to sell it to you as an after market item.
