Take a day off from meat, for the planet and your health

Paul McCartney is behind the “Meat Free Monday” movement, to help cut down on greenhouse gases. If you didn’t know, beef production is a major source of greenhouse gases. I won’t go into detail about that, but please research that topic if you are concerned about the environment.
What I will focus on is the UN-balanced diet of most Americans. Fast foods are notoriously high in meats and carbohydrates, and low in vegetables and whole grains. It would benefit the health of all meat eaters to take 1 day off per week, and eat only fruits, vegetables, and grains. The fact of the matter is that we are doing damage to our bodies by eating meat 3 times per day seven days per week. This post is for those who want to make a change for the better, if you are content with your cholesterol levels, blood pressure levels, and your weight… continue doing what you are doing. But if you want to live a little bit healthier this is a good start… and if you want to go a step further you can cut meat out of your diet 2-4 days per week, or try having only one satisfying serving of meat per day.
Depending upon the serving size, we may consume in one meal an amount which exceeds the recommended daily allowance for meat products. Portion sizes are a real problem in America, our Value/Super Sized meals and the huge portions we order in restaurants can easily contain enough calories to exceed recommended daily amounts. We can still enjoy the foods we love, but we really need to become more moderate with the amounts of food we consume.
I am by no means a vegetarian… but I have learned that there are certain changes that have to be made to ensure a healthy future. Another things that is a huge step in the right direction is increasing water consumption (preferably spring water), but its not as hard as you may think…just reach past the sodas and high sugar juices and drink water people.
