This is perhaps one of the most relevant books I have read this year. If you don’t know who Lee Iacocca is, you should slap yourself now… Lee is the man who saved Chrysler from total collapse in the 1970’s and 1980’s. This book was written in 2007, before the current automotive crisis in America. Even 2 years ago Lee described what was wrong with the auto industry, and what changes needed to be made to change its course… too bad no one was listening. This book is about so much more than the auto crisis. Lee talks about how he was a card carrying Republican who voted for G.W. Bush in 2000, but Lee quickly became one of GW’s biggest critics. Lee is speaking from the view of a person who has close relations with the Bush family so it is quite interesting to read what he has to say about how G.W. Bush was pretending to be something that he was not(read the book to find out specifically what I am talking about). In this book Lee attacks the “leaders” of America both politicians and CEOs for allowing critical issues such as health care, open markets, and the energy policy go so long without being addressed properly. This book was written two years ago but it reads as if it were written yesterday. Do yourself a favor and pick it up…. it is a quick and interesting read.

So far the best book I have completed this year(2009)  has been How to Get Rich by Felix Dennis.  This book is really not about how to get rich… meaning this is definitely not a scheme or “road map” to wealth.  This book is about getting rich through hard work and good decision making and leadership skills.  This book is a conversation with someone who has been there and done that.  Felix talks about his failures and successes and he details the steps he took to go from a single comic book, to one of the largest magazine publishing companies in the Western world.  This is the man behind “The Guardian” newspaper, “Oz” magazine,  Cozmic Comics, Blender Magazine, Maxim Magazine, and Stuff Magazine, just to name a few.  If you read magazines, international newspapers, or old school comics you have touched his work.   I won’t go into too much detail other than to say that if you are business minded, and especially entrepreneurial, this is a must read.  Felix focuses heavily on ownership and entrepreneur ism.
