Are you still growing?
by mrggfep on Dec.21, 2009, under My Thoughts
We all have day jobs, and we all have bills to pay. But those things should not stop us from growing. We must all find time, even if only half an hour a day to spend on self improvement. If you work for someone else for 8-12 hours a day, you should make time to work for yourself 30-60 minutes a day as well. Family is important, but you will be of more value to your family when (continue reading…)
Net Neutrality (and some other things)
by mrggfep on Oct.23, 2009, under My Thoughts
OK people under 40, its time that we take control of the issues that will be relevant for the rest of our lives, we can’t allow these people who have been in office since we were born make our lives miserable from now untilthey are ushered off to their retirement community. John McCain some how woke up and decided to introduce a bill concerning net neutrality. This is a man who has admitted to not using computers or the Internet. Would we let a person who can’t read be a librarian? I think not…if you don’t use the Internet you don’t understand it. If you don’t understand the Internet and you are responsible for writing & voting on laws you should sit down somewhere and leave this task to those who are well informed. Not only should you not introduce bills related to the Internet but you should take a day off when its time to vote on such topics.
If you don’t use computers or the Internet you have no business trying to write policy/law concerning what is best for millions of Internet users. If the people who are affected by these ridiculous bills/laws don’t stand up and let their voices be heard we will continue to be subject to the will of the companies that fund campaigns and lobby politicians to get what they want. I am pretty sure that John McCain could care less about what’s best for the future growth of the Internet, why should he care if he does not use it?
Whether you are for or against net neutrality you need to have some input on the future of the Internet. We can start with net neutrality and then tackle health care and Social Security (since this health care thing probably won’t get solved this year & and even if it is there will be fights to un-do whatever is done for many years to come). These old folks don’t know how to get the job done in 2009… we need to step up and show them that more (well informed) action and less partisan arguing is what we need.
If you are a politician determined to stay in office for the remainder of your working years/life you can not be fully committed to doing what’s best for the people you are supposed to be in office to serve.
You can not be more concerned with re-election than you are with making a better future for the people you serve.
That’s all I have to say about that…

Goodbye 430… Hello 458
by mrggfep on Aug.28, 2009, under Machinery
This is not breaking news to the car enthusiasts out there, and I have known about it for months, but I am just getting around to saying goodbye to the Ferrari F430. I had set a personal goal of walking into a dealership and purchasing a spanking new F430 but they are going to stop production well before I can realize that goal ( unless I win this $350+ million Mega-millions jackpot tonight). Well now I will haveto adjust and set a goal to walk in and pick up an 458 Italia. Like I said the other day people set a goal which appears far out of reach for today and work towards it daily.

stats:
approx. 3,200 lbs
4.5 Litre V-8
562 horsepower

Accomplishments
by mrggfep on Aug.25, 2009, under My Thoughts
Go forth and set goals. Without some milestone to strive to reach, how does one grow? You, me, we all need to continue to challenge ourselves to do bigger and better things. If you are completely satisfied with your life in all aspects then you might as well go kill yourself… People who know me have heard me say that before, and I say again if you can not possibly be more happy with you life than you are right now, then what’s left to live for? If you are not 100% happy with everything in your life and the world around you, then I say get to work… If you are going to keep living you should work to involve yourself in something that will enhance your life, the lives of those around you, and/or the lives other inhabitants(unknown to you) of this planet you share. If you are not working to make yourself or your environment better you are not living, you are only existing.
Last week I reached the major milestone which I had been working toward for almost 2 years, even though it took 5 years of work to get here, I only formalized my desires into an actual goal about 2 years ago. Without formalizing my dream into a goal I would have lost focus and I would have likely taken much more time to get to where I am today. I have watched the movie “The Secret” and I can not say that I have put the teaching into effect, but I can say that a lot of things discussed in that movie/book are true. I am not endorsing that movie/book, as I have learned of some negative attributes to some of the teachings of “The Secret” (which I am researching myself to form my own opinion) but if used properly focused thoughts can definitely have positive effects on your life. Set a goal, and think about it constantly and you will accomplish your goal, no matter how far-fetched it may seem to you right now. Be convinced that you will accomplish your goal, and think about it daily, several times a day and from my experience I can say that things will fall into place to lead you to your goal. Hard work is still required, but I am sure that opportunities are missed daily that could lead you to the future that you dream of, simply because you are not relating events of each day to the possibility that these events around you can be your golden ticket to where you want to be.
Today begin the process of formulating a goal which seems a bit out of reach for you. Your goal should not be something that you can easily imagine yourself accomplishing… you need to push yourself to arrive at a destination you can only dream of today. Every day make some stride to reach that goal no matter how small. You can start by researching it on the Internet, read a book or magazine… do something to help you reach your goal. If you take no advice other than this from me, I will be more than satisfied with my life as a blogger. Actions create results, without action you will remain where you are today.
Unbelievable

Today I came across this article… which itself is a bit concerning because it sounds like these pupils will be getting less instruction during school hours so that they will have time to do homework in class. I think the line about giving children more time to bond with their families is absolutely ridiculous. It is true that some school systems can over do it with homework, and yes there should be a balance, but I do not think it is possible to give adequate instruction during a class and provide time for re-enforcement of the teaching all during a class period. Homework provides the repetition necessary for most people to really learn what they were taught in class. But the real problem I have is the parent’s comments “…I’m a single mom of three kids and I don’t know that I’ll take the initiative to just, [say] Okay let’s work on something in your workbook tonight…” This mother went on to say that her kids will probably just spend more time playing video games and watching television. It is inexcusable for a person to realize the work necessary to secure a bright future for their children and have the ability to do the work, but refuse to do it because they are too____ lazy/tired/busy/you fill in the blank. This is not a case of a parent who does not know better, but a parent who is not attempting to do better. I know a bunch of people are going to say I am being too hard on a tired single parent who works all day and does not have the energy to come home and help her children learn something… But I say that attitude is the problem. If television and video games were replaced with study time, reading, or computerized tutoring for 50% of the time these kids would be much better off. It does not take a lot of extra time or money to do right in all cases, it just takes parents who are willing to deal with kids who will complain and gripe about having structure in their lives. Being a parent is not necessarily supposed to be easy. Protecting and educating the youth is not always fun, pleasant, or entertaining… but you have to take the good with the bad, and get the job done people.
Just some words

Every moment of life is a defining moment. Every single decision you make, or fail to make shapes and defines your future in some way. Every moment counts, you can not get back a single second, you can not re-live a single event, you can not undo a single decision. Everything matters, every second counts. Your future is determined by your past, and the present. Until I see evidence to prove otherwise, it seems as if we only get one chance at life, so we must be prepared to take advantage of every opportunity. The past is to learn from, not to wallow in or to obsess over. Learn from the past and make a better future for yourself by doing something productive with the present.

Happy New Year!!!
by mrggfep on May.25, 2009, under My Thoughts

Every New Year we all hear (and read) everybody and their mama claim that “This is my year”… Hold up… It takes more than a proclamation to make things happen. Some of you who know me may have seen me write something a little bit different at the start of 2009. I said that 2010 is my year, and I am using 2009 to prepare for it.
In order to make major changes in your life it requires study, preparation, and most importantly action. You can’t expect big things to happen in your life if you are not positioning yourself properly and creating a way for big things to happen. So to all of you people who claim that every year will be “Your Year” I say you need to make a plan today so that you can have control of your life in 2010 or maybe even 2011. Pick up a book, educate yourself on a subject that you have little or no knowledge of. Knowledge is power, the more you know the more options you have to make changes in your life.
The first step in making something happen is to commit to it. The next requirement is to make a move toward making it happen. Once you take that first step you will see new opportunities and possibilities which you would have never seen if you only dream. When you make a move, if it is the right move, you will see things happen that will lead you on a path to success. We can not be lazy or afraid if we want to move to a better place. When you make a move or overcome your fear of the unknown, unpredictable things happen which will guide you on your road to success and you will be glad that you took the initiative to improve your own life. I am not saying this road will always be easy, but in the long run it is best. Successful people are those who recover from failure and try again, and again. Even in the worst case scenario, if all goes completely wrong, you can ALWAYS go back to where you came from. On the other hand, if you never leave where you are you will never get to a better place.
